Goddess Fish Tour-Rite of Summer by Tess Bowery-Guest Blog-Review & Giveaway!!

May 19, 2015 by Angela

Talk about your favourite scene or moment from the book, what makes it so special to you?

There are a couple of ‘favorite moments’ that I’m not going to talk about, because they happen closer to the end of the book and might give too much away. That being said, there’s a particular moment that I’m terribly fond of, coming up on the one-quarter mark or so.
My heroes, Joshua and Stephen, have only known each other for a couple of days, and in that time, Joshua’s already managed to walk in on – and then get busted watching – Stephen and his current lover in flagrante delicto. So at this point, Joshua is well aware that Stephen has carnal interest in men, and Stephen is mostly certain that Joshua does as well; what Joshua doesn’t know yet is that Stephen’s relationship is an open one, and they often bring in third parties. And of course, while there’s a potent physical attraction between them, the guys don’t yet know anything about each other as people.
Stephen comes upon Joshua while Joshua – an artist – is sketching by the riverbank. Joshua’s convinced that Stephen’s going to give him hell for walking in on Stephen and Evander in the conservatory, but Stephen just sits down and makes small talk for a while.
It’s a simple scene, not a lot happens in it action-wise. In my original outline, it gets summed up as ‘Joshua and Stephen chat by the river.’ But there’s a certain mix of both tranquility and uncertainty running through their conversation that really appeals to me – that delicious stage of ‘does he like me? How will I know? Does he know that I like him, too?’ – that’s at the core of that all-encompassing new-crush energy we all love.
It also gave me a great chance to start peeling back the layers of these characters, to have them – along with the readers – learn a little bit about each other beyond their initial ‘hot daaaaamn, son’ reactions.
That emotional connection is so vital to the core of any good romance. We have to be able to see the heroes as people who are truly suited for each other, who will be able to forge something that will last long into middle and old age. I always need my love interests to be friends at some level; either before their sexual relationship begins, or something that develops alongside the sexual, so that you can picture their romance as only the beginning of something that will stay satisfying for both of them, forever.
And I’ve just outed myself as a ridiculous romantic now, I suppose. I’m in this business because I dream of happy endings, though, and for me it’s connection and belonging – the sense that another human being knows everything about you and loves you regardless – that drives the most brilliant love stories.
—
If I can, I’d like to take the chance here to divert slightly. While the book blog tour has a series of dated stops, the posts and interviews haven’t all been done at the same time. This is the last one I received, and I slacked off so long on finishing it, that good news has happened in the mean time – which means that you get the exclusive reveal! I’ve officially signed the contract with Samhain for the second book in Treading the Boards.
The book is titled She Whom I Love, and is the story of Sophie, a secondary character you’ll meet in Rite of Summer – a woman very important in Joshua’s life. She has her own romance(s) brewing, and a love triangle with a rather different sort of resolution. That book will be out in December, so please keep an eye on my webpage, tumblr and/or twitter accounts for news.

Blurb

BookCover_RiteOfSummerThere are terrors worse than stage fright. Like falling in love.

Violinist Stephen Ashbrook is passionate about three things—his music, the excitement of life in London, and his lover, Evander Cade. It’s too bad that Evander only loves himself. A house party at their patron’s beautiful country estate seems like a chance for Stephen to remember who he is, when he’s not trying to live up to someone else’s harsh expectations.

Joshua Beaufort, a painter whose works are very much in demand among the right sort of people, has no expectations about this party at all. Until, that is, he finds out who else is on the guest list. Joshua swore off love long ago, but has been infatuated with Stephen since seeing his brilliant performance at Vauxhall. Now he has the chance to meet the object of his lust face to face—and more.

But changing an open relationship to a triad is a lot more complicated than it seems, and while Evander’s trying to climb the social ladder, Stephen’s trying to climb Joshua. When the dust settles, only two will remain standing…

Excerpt

Joshua lowered himself into the armchair in his room, and loosened his cravat with a peevish snap.

“That bad, was it?” Sophie asked from the chair opposite, her legs curled under her. She closed the book in her hands, tucking it into her lap. It said something that he wasn’t the least bit surprised by her presence, though by all rights he should have been appropriately scandalized. He could always tell her to leave, as though that would do any good. The girl was like a cat; she went where she pleased and did what she liked, and woe betide anyone but her employer who tried to force her otherwise.

“I had no idea,” Joshua said, checking first to be sure the door was most securely closed, “that her ladyship had such strong opinions about the idea of gas lighting.”

“Ooh, yes, did she get on about that again?” Sophie replied with a pleased grin. “’Those gas lines will be a blight on the city,’” she imitated bitingly. “’They’re an invitation to treachery and a first stage toward a new Gunpowder Plot,’ to hear her go on. And did you know,” she asked rhetorically, the light of mischief in her eyes, “that they’re sinful as well? Apparently Our Lord and Savior would prefer candlelight.”

“Lord save us from the march of progress,” Joshua sighed, and rubbed his forehead. Exhaustion nipped around the edges of his eyes, his shoulders aching. “You were quite right, by the way.” He glanced up at Sophie, not too tired to add to her amusement. “Lady Chalcroft’s got her eye set on Coventry for her eldest. The two of them would set on her rivals like a pair of wild dogs if they thought it would get her a hand-span closer to a coronet.”

Review:

I have a confession to make. While I love historical fiction (And GBTL historicals? *FLAIL*), I dislike ones written in the regency style as thus book is. Despite my disappointment I found myself thoroughly enjoying the novel! Hot sex, and a fantastic, and interesting story line kept in interest right to the very end. I won’t spoil you, (because really!! You NEED to know who Stephen chooses in the end) I will say the ending was not what I expected-in a good way. It took me a little while to get into the novel, it’s an excellent début novel from a fantastic new author and I look forward to reading anything she puts forth in the future.

If you like GBTL Historicals  in the Regency style hands down this book is for you!

Goddess Fish Tours-Pen Name-Doctor Chicken **Give Away** **Review**

February 19, 2014 by Angela

 Blurb

Cover_DoctorChicken

Sometimes Stratford’s dreams of love have fared no better, but he’s still trying. After yet another disastrous date, he’s intrigued by a man going into a cooking class—so he takes the class too. Vinnie Giani is a successful, self-made man who is charmed by Stratford’s bow ties, sharp humor, and clumsiness—which leads to an opportunity to take Stratford in for stitches. Vinnie is, above all, responsible, having taken on the care of his mother and sisters from a young age. Perhaps it’s natural when he begins to treat Stratford more as a child who needs a parent than as an equal partner. But when Vinnie tries to “fix” Stratford’s career woes—including the Doctor Chicken problem—and ends up making the situation worse, their fledgling relationship may not withstand the strain created by blame and lies.ford Dale feels like Doctor Chicken consumes his life. It’s his pen name for a series of wildly popular children’s books. They were his brainchild; he meant for them to be a way to pay his many bills while he pursued his dream of publishing graphic novels. But the Doctor Chicken contract was a raw deal. Instead, he churns out book after book for a pittance, leaving him broke and no closer to his dreams.

Excerpt:

“ABBY, I swear, I’m never going to find my own Thad.”

Stratford should have waited until he’d gotten home to call Abby, because the wind was going to freeze his fingers into a permanent curl around his phone. Gloves, scarfs, and wind-resistant fabrics hadn’t suited his super-sexy Barry-bait outfit. Unfortunately, the Barry bait had been too enticing. Or the wrong kind of enticing. Sluts might wear shirts and pants as tight as his, but they didn’t wear bow ties, did they? At least he was able to grab a latte on the way home. Aside from being one of his few expensive indulgences, it was keeping his left hand warmish.

“Of course you will. Are you sure you’re not judging him too harshly? You sometimes have unrealistic expectations.”

He snorted. No one had to know he’d had a sneaking little thought that he’d so dazzle Barry with his erudition and joie de vivre that the man would immediately become smitten and fall in love. Besides, Abby already knew he was a hopeless romantic.

“There was a certain romantic touch to the butt plug discussion over shrimp devolving into a dessert discussion on whether silicone, rubber, or glass was preferable for dildos. A dead giveaway, if I’d been paying attention. I mean, anyone who has enough information to write a dissertation on dildo production materials is either way too oversexed for me or hasn’t had enough sex with other people… and probably for an excellent reason, as I discovered.”

An older man in a fedora, walking in the opposite direction, gave Stratford a raised-brow look, and Stratford simply rolled his eyes and shrugged.

“Ford, you slut. You didn’t! On a first date?” Abby’s light, teasing tone hadn’t the slightest hint of censure, but it could have. After all, Stratford had had his slutty moments, to be sure, but slutty wasn’t the best way to snag a boyfriend. He didn’t think. Or at least, not too slutty. What man didn’t like a hint of slut? Monogamous slut. If there was such a thing.

 “Uh, hello, you still there?”

“What, oh, yes. Sorry.” Stratford had to stop drifting to his fantasies of a fairytale ending.

“You dog. You did it, didn’t you? And how was it?”

“No. Really, I didn’t. I mean, he blew me a little bit.”

This time it was Abby who snorted. “Blew you a little bit? Kind of like being a little bit preggers, you know.”

“It’s never a good sign when you have to say ‘watch the teeth,’ followed closely by ‘don’t bite that.’ Puts a damper on things.”

“You think?” Loud gales of laughter buffeted him across the wireless waves, and Stratford pursed his lips. Why was his dating life such a fucking joke?

AuthorAvatarKC Burn has been writing for as long as she can remember and is a sucker for happy endings (of all kinds). After moving from Toronto to Florida for her husband to take a dream job, she discovered a love of gay romance and fulfilled a dream of her own – getting published. After a few years of editing web content by day, and neglecting her supportive, understanding hubby and needy cat at night to write stories about men loving men, she was uprooted yet again and now resides in California. Writing is always fun and rewarding, but writing about her guys is the most fun she’s had in a long time, and she hopes you’ll enjoy them as much as she does.

 Review-3.5 Stars

Pen Name-Doctor Chicken, is not what I expected out of a novel.  As a fan of KC Burn I was very excited to be able to read her newest book. It’s very  different from her other novels, but her unique voice makes you fall in love with the characters.  “Ford” is a typical starving artist, with too many ideals and not enough cash to make it happen. Vinne is a fantastic family man, with three great girls- only they’re his sister’s. He’s devoted his life to supporting his family, now it’s time for Vinne to have some fun an “Ford” is the guy who catches his eye. Pen Name-Doctor Chicken is a fun and light read, you can really lose yourself in the pages. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, I would have preferred to have the last few chapters explored a bit more, but overall a very enjoyable read. 3.5 stars.

Boys, writing, Contracts, Blue, blue hair and Facebook!

May 1, 2013 by Angela

So I’m making an effort to update my blog more! Life has been very busy for me in the last year!

A year ago I moved into an apartment with the man of my dreams! He’s tall (6’4″!) blonde hair, blue eyes, and a smile to die for! The side effect of being so in-love is that my writing has taken a beating over the past year. I finally feel like I’m in a place where I can write, and be happy, and still make dinner most nights! It feels great!

In case you missed the announcement! I signed a contract on March 5th for the 3rd (and Final???) book in my Hat trick 1NS trilogy co-written with Emily Cale.
You can pick up the first two books on amazon:
Goalie Interference(F/M): http://www.amazon.com/Goalie-Interference-Night-Series-ebook/dp/B007UK9DWO
Power Play(M/F/M) :http://www.amazon.com/Power-Night-Stand-Series-ebook/dp/B0093TFS5Q

“Unsportsmanlike Conduct” is expected to be released in the fall! Keep your eyes peeled, here is the blurb:

Owen Carter is a hockey player. He lives, and breaths his sport. So much so that not even his parents know the truth about his sexuality. When his teammates set him up using Madame Eve’s 1 Night stand service, he fully expects Addison to be a blonde bimbo. Instead he finds sexy cop, Addison Krause to be everything he could ever want in a man. Will he be able to open up and let Addison in, or will Owen let the best thing that ever happened to him walk away.

Goodness! Owen and Addison are steamy and adorable! I hope you like them as much as I do :)!

So yesterday I dyed my hair BLUE. Yes that’s right BLUE! So far the response has been positive  (But my RL boss hasn’t seen it yet, so we’ll see!) . I’m planning on doing a VLOG! to promote Hop against Homophobia and Transphobia so you’ll get to check out my blue hair then!

Goddess Fish, Virtual tour-Boots on the Ground!

January 25, 2013 by Angela

Hello everyone, Goddess Fish is hosting my tour for “Boots on the Ground” This week and next week.

There has been some interested in an additional excerpt for Ash and Matthew, since I love these two boys so much, I give you an excerpt I like to call “Dinner and Desert”:

Ash stomped his boots off on the porch before opening the door to the mudroom. He still had three more hours in his shift. The shift was running slow though. The snow had kept most people home and off the roads. He called Matthew and asked him to make dinner for the two of them, as he would be able to stop at home to eat.

“Hey,” Matthew called from the kitchen once Ash shut the door against the cold.

“Hey,” Ash called back. He wiped his feet off further and walked on the mat through the hall. He didn’t take his boots off in case he had to leave in a hurry.

Matthew stood at the stove hovering over a pot of something that smelled amazing. He smiled at Ash as he entered the kitchen. “How’s work?” Matthew asked, turning around to face Ash.

“Slow.” He grabbed Matthew and pulled him towards him. Matthew dipped his head just enough to reach the slightly shorter man and tug his lips into a dominating kiss.

This was the first time they had properly seen each other in three days. Matthew had been working nights, and Ash had been on day shift. He hated when that happened. At least this was his last shift on this set. They had the next four days off together. Just the two of them. Ash couldn’t wait.

Matthew pulled away grinning. “Think you can get off early?” he asked.

“No, I’m needed in case there’s an accident, knock on wood,” Ash said. They both rapped on the kitchen cabinet door. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay,” Matthew said. He kissed his partner again. “Are you hungry?”

“Starving,” Ash replied with a look that indicated that he was hungry for more than just food.

“Down boy,” Matthew told him. “I made clam chowder. Sit. I’ll get you a bowl.” Ash dropped himself in his spot at the kitchen table.

“Seventy-four-Queen, are you 10-25 yet?” Ash’s radio crackled.

“That’s a 10-4, dispatch,” Ash replied.

“10-4, let us know when you’re 10-8.”

Matthew set a bowl of clam chowder and a basket of tea biscuits in front of Ash. “Do you have to go?” he asked, sitting down at the table.

“No, I forgot to tell her I was 10-25,” Ash replied.

“That means you’re on dinner break right?”

“Uh-huh.” Ash took two tea biscuits from the basket. They were still warm.

“Did you make these?”

“Yes. I had to call Mom for the recipe though,” Matthew said. He also took two from the basket and buttered them.

“How is it that I get a man who can cook and makes me dinner on a regular basis?”

“Just lucky I guess,” Matthew said and Ash smiled. “Eat before it gets cold,” he instructed.

The two men tucked into their simple but delicious meal, devouring the entire thing. “That was amazing,” Ash declared pushing his chair back from the table.

Matthew blushed. “Thanks,” he said.

Ash stood up and picked up their empty bowls and side plates. They got dumped into the sink. He went to turn the water on but a pair of strong arms slipped around his waist stopping him. “Matt?”

“Love you,” Matthew whispered, planting a kiss to the nape of Ash’s neck.

Matthew spun Ash around and pulled him as close as the duty belt and bulletproof vest would allow. He pinned Ash against the counter rubbing their crotches together.

“Love you too,” Ash murmured back. They kissed, the edge of the counter digging into Ash’s back as his hands wandered down squeezing Matthew’s ass though his jeans. That made Matthew growl louder than usual.

Matthew broke away kissing a spot on Ash’s neck. “Why don’t you find out what I have waiting for you,” he whispered into Ash’s ear.

Ash groaned. Matthew stepped away enough for Ash to get his hands on his partner’s belt. Ash undid it, and his hands slid inside Matthew’s jeans and boxer briefs. His fingers caressed Matthew’s semi-hard length. “Very nice,” Ash commented. He rolled the head in his fingers causing Matthew to hiss.

“Mmm, but that’s not the surprise. Keep looking,” Matthew said with a sly smile.

Ash stroked his partner one last time before moving his hands. He stroked Matthew’s hips. “Warmer,” he hinted. Ash rubbed his thumbs over the sides of Matthew’s hips. “Warmer,” Matthew told him.

“Give me a hint,” Ash said, enjoying this game. His fingers brushed against the top of Matthew’s ass.

“Even warmer,” Matthew replied. Ash’s hands moved lower brushing the top of his crack. “Warmer,”Matthew teased.

Ash smiled, his fingers crept lower. “There?” he asked, his fingers teasing around Matthew’s entrance.

“Burning hot, but not quite,” Matthew said with a hitch in his voice as Ash slid a finger into his already lubed ass. Instead of the warm and slick tunnel he expected, Ash met a hard resistance just inside, “And what is that?” he asked.

Matthew smiled, “Your surprise.”

Ash groaned. “What the heck is it?”

Matthew bit Ash’s lip, pulling back. “Butt plug.”

Ash raised an eyebrow. “Where’s the base?”

“It’s called a low profile. There’s a hidden base so it can be worn at any time, and no one can tell it’s there,” Matthew said his eyes narrowing as he gave his partner a mischievous smile.

“And it’s for me?” Ash asked. He already grew harder at the thought, if that was possible.

“Yes, it is. You’re going to wear it for the rest of your shift.”

“If it’s for me then why are you wearing it?”

Matthew grinned. “Keeping it warm for you.”

“You’re a kinky bastard, Matthew Ryman.”

Hope you enjoy and don’t forget to check out the tour! One luck comment will win a $25GC!
