February 16, 2018 by Angela

I am so excited about this novella!!!

At RTC in 2016 ‘Nathan and I decided we wanted to write something together, It took almost 2 years and a lot of work, but here we are. Saving the Date is about surviving the worst and coming out on top. There is no easy route after a trauma, but with the help of a fairy godmother, a little sprinkling of magic from Madame Eve and a whole lot of luck, good or bad, Morgan and Zach are in for one unforgettable night, and maybe if they’re lucky, a little bit more.

After a vicious gay bashing, Morgan has spent the last three years working hard to survive and thrive. His latest plan? Using Madame Evangeline’s high-end dating service, 1NightStand, to take the anniversary of the worst night of his life and replace it with a good—and maybe even sexy—memory.

Zach, a police officer with the Hate & Bias Crime Unit, is still coming to terms with his divorce and struggling to move on with his life. Using a matchmaking service is so very not his style, but sometimes a guy has to trust his friends—even if they don’t know everything about him, and he’s not sure they ever will.

Face-to-face, however, it becomes clear that despite an attraction, there’s a problem. Morgan and Zach have already met—three years ago. But with some courage, a couple of pairs of skates, and a leap of faith? Morgan and Zach have a shot at saving more than one day. Together? They might just make a future.

“Sorry, you’re not Morgan, are you?”

“Are you Zach?”

The big guy nodded. “Yeah.” He swallowed, as if the word caught in his throat. “I’m Zach.”

Okay, the important thing here is not to drool on the table.

“Sorry,” he said, fumbling for words of his own. He had to crane his neck to talk to the guy.

Had there been a checkbox for “big, Teutonic warrior heritage”? Because it seemed he’d checked it off. “I, uh. Wow. You are tall.”

The big guy—his date, Morgan corrected himself—cracked a wan smile.

“Sit down.” Morgan gestured to the empty chair. “Please.”

Zach hesitated for another second—Morgan tried to convince himself the blond wasn’t looking for a reasonable escape plan—then pulled out the chair and sat down. No amount of padding could account for the width of the man’s shoulders.

Morgan exhaled. “So. On a scale of one to a billion, how awkward is this?”

Zach seemed to surprise himself with a laugh. “You have no idea. I’m sorry I’m late. Traffic. And, uh …. There’s something….” He frowned. The intensity of his gaze unnerved him.

“Do I have something on my face?” He’d not ordered hot chocolate to avoid whipped cream accidents.

Zach blinked. “Sorry. No. I’m….” He shook his head. “Would you believe you look familiar?”

“Like your dead girlfriend?” Morgan grinned, singing the words.

“Excuse me?” Zach leaned back, frowning.

“Oh. Not a Rent fan, eh?” Morgan held up his hands. “Sorry. When I’m nervous, I become a font of inappropriate humor . I’m told it’s endearing. Y’know, by, like, my misfit friends.” Morgan bit his lip. “Which probably means it’s not endearing, come to think of it.”

Zach stared at him.

“It’s a line from a musical,” Morgan said. “And I’ll stop now.” He clenched his jaw shut before he could say anything else.

Zach took a deep breath. “Were you expecting…? Uh. I mean, did…?” He didn’t meet Morgan’s gaze, and he rubbed his thumb up and down his coffee cup. He had a little scar through his eyebrow, and—

“Wait,” Morgan said. When Zach raised his eyebrows, the familiarity faded, but it had been there. “Maybe I do know you. Do you ever shop at Urbane Myth? It’s a consignment shop in the Village. You’d never forget Phoebe, the owner. She’s a glamazon. I’m less memorable.”

Zach shook his head. “No. I don’t know it.”

Morgan frowned. “Okay. What about you? Where do you work?”

Zach cleared his throat, shifting in his seat. No way could the big guy be comfortable in the little chair. “I’m a cop.”

Oh no. Oh for the love of ….

“A cop.”

Zach nodded, then added, “With the Hate and—”

“Bias Crimes Unit.”

They stared at each other.

“On a scale of one to a billion?” Zach said. “We just hit a billion.”

Home is Where the Heat Is, Book 1

BookCover_BringMeHomeMiya Jackson always believed life had more to offer outside Dead End, Texas. So when circumstances turned her life upside down, she took her chance to break free. A few years—and some brutal doses of reality—later, her little sister’s wedding brings her back to the hometown she left behind.

The last place she expects is to end up is in the arms of the man she’s tried and failed to forget. One scalding, passionate night is all it takes to make her rethink her damn good reasons for leaving.

Shawn Dalton always hoped this day would come. Hell, he and Miya have a history, and any misunderstandings can be fixed if she’ll only stay in one spot long enough. Now that’s she’s back, he’s determined to make her see that she belongs in Dead End. With him.

Her obstinate nature is intact, but he can deal with that. It’s the cold, detached woman she’s become that worries him. Melting that wall—and reminding Miya of her roots—is going to take every hot, sinful moment he can wrangle.

Excerpt:

Shawn hooked another bale of hay and maneuvered it into the barn. “Lot can change in four years.”

“We’re talking about my dad. Not us.” She followed him into the cooler recesses of the barn. A huge row of hay bales lined the farthest side of the barn. “But thank you for helping him.”

“No thanks needed.” Every muscle strained as he lifted the bale into place. “Your folks are good people, and your Ma was worried when he fell after the reception. I was just in the right place at the right time.”

“Wait, what?” Miya watched her father enter the house.

He walked past her to grab another bale. “I guess he tripped. I’d stopped by to congratulate your sister on her wedding and your Ma asked me to look at his ankle. I figured she would have told you.”

“She didn’t.” Miya took a deep breath to ease the guilt clawing at her throat. She was home, and she still didn’t see what was right in front of her. “I should be thanking you.”

He shook his head and adjusted his hat. “Don’t need it. I did what anyone would do. They’re my neighbors.”

He knocked his gloves against his jeans a couple times before swiping at the hay clinging to his body. A few stray pieces clung to his hair and sweat-dampened skin, and she walked over to pluck them away. “Still. It’s not your responsibility and I want you to know I appreciate it.”

He barely moved, at least it seemed that way. Must have been more than she realized since somehow, she found herself backed up against one of the tall support beams bracing the sagging rafters. A sinful smile creased his dust-streaked face. “It’s my pleasure.”

Cover_DoctorChicken

Sometimes Stratford’s dreams of love have fared no better, but he’s still trying. After yet another disastrous date, he’s intrigued by a man going into a cooking class—so he takes the class too. Vinnie Giani is a successful, self-made man who is charmed by Stratford’s bow ties, sharp humor, and clumsiness—which leads to an opportunity to take Stratford in for stitches. Vinnie is, above all, responsible, having taken on the care of his mother and sisters from a young age. Perhaps it’s natural when he begins to treat Stratford more as a child who needs a parent than as an equal partner. But when Vinnie tries to “fix” Stratford’s career woes—including the Doctor Chicken problem—and ends up making the situation worse, their fledgling relationship may not withstand the strain created by blame and lies.ford Dale feels like Doctor Chicken consumes his life. It’s his pen name for a series of wildly popular children’s books. They were his brainchild; he meant for them to be a way to pay his many bills while he pursued his dream of publishing graphic novels. But the Doctor Chicken contract was a raw deal. Instead, he churns out book after book for a pittance, leaving him broke and no closer to his dreams.

Excerpt:

“ABBY, I swear, I’m never going to find my own Thad.”

Stratford should have waited until he’d gotten home to call Abby, because the wind was going to freeze his fingers into a permanent curl around his phone. Gloves, scarfs, and wind-resistant fabrics hadn’t suited his super-sexy Barry-bait outfit. Unfortunately, the Barry bait had been too enticing. Or the wrong kind of enticing. Sluts might wear shirts and pants as tight as his, but they didn’t wear bow ties, did they? At least he was able to grab a latte on the way home. Aside from being one of his few expensive indulgences, it was keeping his left hand warmish.

“Of course you will. Are you sure you’re not judging him too harshly? You sometimes have unrealistic expectations.”

He snorted. No one had to know he’d had a sneaking little thought that he’d so dazzle Barry with his erudition and joie de vivre that the man would immediately become smitten and fall in love. Besides, Abby already knew he was a hopeless romantic.

“There was a certain romantic touch to the butt plug discussion over shrimp devolving into a dessert discussion on whether silicone, rubber, or glass was preferable for dildos. A dead giveaway, if I’d been paying attention. I mean, anyone who has enough information to write a dissertation on dildo production materials is either way too oversexed for me or hasn’t had enough sex with other people… and probably for an excellent reason, as I discovered.”

An older man in a fedora, walking in the opposite direction, gave Stratford a raised-brow look, and Stratford simply rolled his eyes and shrugged.

“Ford, you slut. You didn’t! On a first date?” Abby’s light, teasing tone hadn’t the slightest hint of censure, but it could have. After all, Stratford had had his slutty moments, to be sure, but slutty wasn’t the best way to snag a boyfriend. He didn’t think. Or at least, not too slutty. What man didn’t like a hint of slut? Monogamous slut. If there was such a thing.

 “Uh, hello, you still there?”

“What, oh, yes. Sorry.” Stratford had to stop drifting to his fantasies of a fairytale ending.

“You dog. You did it, didn’t you? And how was it?”

“No. Really, I didn’t. I mean, he blew me a little bit.”

This time it was Abby who snorted. “Blew you a little bit? Kind of like being a little bit preggers, you know.”

“It’s never a good sign when you have to say ‘watch the teeth,’ followed closely by ‘don’t bite that.’ Puts a damper on things.”

“You think?” Loud gales of laughter buffeted him across the wireless waves, and Stratford pursed his lips. Why was his dating life such a fucking joke?

After moving from Toronto to Florida for her husband to take a dream job, she discovered a love of gay romance and fulfilled a dream of her own – getting published. After a few years of editing web content by day, and neglecting her supportive, understanding hubby and needy cat at night to write stories about men loving men, she was uprooted yet again and now resides in California.  Review-3.5 Stars

Pen Name-Doctor Chicken, is not what I expected out of a novel.  As a fan of KC Burn I was very excited to be able to read her newest book. It’s very  different from her other novels, but her unique voice makes you fall in love with the characters.  “Ford” is a typical starving artist, with too many ideals and not enough cash to make it happen. Vinne is a fantastic family man, with three great girls- only they’re his sister’s. He’s devoted his life to supporting his family, now it’s time for Vinne to have some fun an “Ford” is the guy who catches his eye. Pen Name-Doctor Chicken is a fun and light read, you can really lose yourself in the pages. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, I would have preferred to have the last few chapters explored a bit more, but overall a very enjoyable read. 3.5 stars.

Boys, writing, Contracts, Blue, blue hair and Facebook!

May 1, 2013 by Angela

So I’m making an effort to update my blog more! Life has been very busy for me in the last year!

A year ago I moved into an apartment with the man of my dreams! He’s tall (6’4″!) blonde hair, blue eyes, and a smile to die for! The side effect of being so in-love is that my writing has taken a beating over the past year. I finally feel like I’m in a place where I can write, and be happy, and still make dinner most nights! It feels great!

In case you missed the announcement! I signed a contract on March 5th for the 3rd (and Final???) book in my Hat trick 1NS trilogy co-written with Emily Cale.
You can pick up the first two books on amazon:
Goalie Interference(F/M): http://www.amazon.com/Goalie-Interference-Night-Series-ebook/dp/B007UK9DWO
Power Play(M/F/M) :http://www.amazon.com/Power-Night-Stand-Series-ebook/dp/B0093TFS5Q

“Unsportsmanlike Conduct” is expected to be released in the fall! Keep your eyes peeled, here is the blurb:

Owen Carter is a hockey player. He lives, and breaths his sport. So much so that not even his parents know the truth about his sexuality. When his teammates set him up using Madame Eve’s 1 Night stand service, he fully expects Addison to be a blonde bimbo. Instead he finds sexy cop, Addison Krause to be everything he could ever want in a man. Will he be able to open up and let Addison in, or will Owen let the best thing that ever happened to him walk away.

Goodness! Owen and Addison are steamy and adorable! I hope you like them as much as I do :)!

So yesterday I dyed my hair BLUE. Yes that’s right BLUE! So far the response has been positive  (But my RL boss hasn’t seen it yet, so we’ll see!) . I’m planning on doing a VLOG! to promote Hop against Homophobia and Transphobia so you’ll get to check out my blue hair then!

Boots on the Ground

June 22, 2011 by admin

It took me nine weeks to write “Sometimes It’s Fate” as soon as I finished I started writing the follow up, “Boots on the Ground” I’ve been writing this book for a year and a half and there is finally an end to the long tunnel. Why has it taken me so long to write?

Good question.

I think it had to do with a lot of things going on in my life. I lost all all important momentum that comes with writing. Just after I finished Sometimes I moved half way across the country, I started working instead of just going to school. I finished School, then I started studying for my big nurse Exam. By the time that was done I found a job and started working again. I didn’t have the time or the focus to really write.  I would open something write 10k and move on, or drop 1000 words here 2000 words there. etc.  I felt a bit defeated as well I wrote a book, a subbed and subbed and subbed and all I got was rejection notices.

Finally someone picked it up, but my focus was else where. A new book idea came along in January and I spent 8 weeks writing that and another 8 polishing and scrubbing. Now I’ve done a few subs I’ve put it on the shelf for now. I’m back to focusing on Boots. At the moment I have 48 700 words plus another 15k or so ready to drop in once I connect the scenes together. I finally feel like things are moving along. Just need to keep that momentum!

Here is the -working- blurb for “Boots on the Ground”

Ash Cooper knows him and, his Civilian Police partner, Jason McCarty need to do one thing- Stay Alive. An IED attack leaves both men stranded in the high desert of Afghanistan and running from insurgents. With damaged satellite phones and Ash being injured their only hope is to take refuge with a group of civilians until they can be rescued. But rescuers don’t come and as the days turn to weeks Ash and Jason think about home, the partners they left behind, and when all hope is lost they turn to each other in a struggle for survival.
