Jason and David’s character profiles

July 28, 2011 by admin

Thanks to the lovely Cara Bristol for this fantastic idea! It really makes you think differently about your characters!  So here we go:

Name: Jason Christopher McCarty

Age: 26

Occupation: RCMP Officer

Marital Status: single, but has a friend with very good “benefits”

Likes: his job, his best friend’s kids, and being the hero

Dislikes: snow storms, hiding that he’s gay and homophobes

Best characteristics:  he loves kids, his family, and he’s very compassionate

Worst characteristics: he hides too much of himself, he compartmentalises everything, he can be clinical and cold.

Biggest challenge: hiding that he’s gay from everyone.

Biggest fear: he’ll never find someone to love him.

Best one liner: “I hate to break it to you but this whole relationship is kinda gay.”

Name: David Henri Richard

Age: 34

Occupation: RCMP officer

Marital status: divorced, with three kids

Likes: his kids, his job, and his best friend

Dislikes: his ex-wife’s irresponsibility, not being in control, lying to his family

Best characteristics: he loves his kids, he’s a good cop, he forgives easily.

Worst characteristics: he’s got a temper, he’s impulsive, it’s always his way- or the highway

Biggest challenge: overcoming his own stereotypes

Biggest fear:  his kids won’t be able to have a relationship with their mom.

Best one liner: “I have had sex before. I have three children to prove it.”

Six Sentence Sunday #6

July 24, 2011 by admin

Giving David and Jason a break this week and posting from my new #wip “Princess by Surprise”

In this scene, Bryar learns who Tony really is, and why he wants to control who adopts their baby.

*~*

“My real name is His Royal Highness Prince Antonio Edward Phillip Eddington of New Zealand, the Third. That baby you’re carrying has royal blood and there is no way you’re adopting him to some strangers.”

Bryar felt that sink in for a moment, finally, she replied, “I have no idea what you talking about, anyone could be this baby’s father, I must have slept with ten different men when I was sleeping with you.  Now get out I never want to see you again.”

Bryar stormed over to the door and opened it. She tried not feel a guilty satisfaction at seeing Tony’s heart ripped open, she slammed the door behind his lying ass before collapsing against it and bursting into tears.

*~*

OUCH!! Never mess with a pregnant woman!!

As a reminder this week is the *last* week to comment and *WIN* a $10(usd) giftcard to amazon!!! Draw will be midnight @ July 26th 2011.

Nostalgia

July 21, 2011 by admin

Tonight we’re having KFC for dinner. It seems silly but it’s a little piece of my childhood.

I grew up in a tiny town of about 1500 people in Nova Scotia. When I was going up it was tough, three kids on a Petty Officer’s Salary in the 90’s was hard (yes i’m a navy brat). The pay check didn’t always stretch very far. I remember more than once my mom rolling pennies so I could have enough money to go on a school trip.

So needless to say we didn’t get take-out very often. Actually almost never. There were two places in my small town for take-out. A local run Pizza place (which has been owned and run by the same family since they started the business up 16 some years ago) and a KFC.

We would have KFC maybe once a year. *Maybe*. It was always a huge treat, and yeah we’re having that for dinner tonight.

So it seems silly but it’s a tiny bit of my childhood and it reminds me how good I have it now. My dad is finally making a good salary, my mom is working full time we have a fantastic house and yes as a single nurse I’m doing better than my parents were twenty years ago.

I think it reminds me of all of the hard times, and how lucky I am to be where I am today.

So here is to Nostalgia and never forgetting where you came from and always looking forward to the future because it’s always bright.

Okay. You’re still here are you? I guess you *really* want to know why David is sleeping with a woman… Not just any woman I might add. His Ex-wife.

First off I posted this six because I wanted to gauge some reader reaction. I have this scene and I’m hesitating to put it into “Boots”.  Basically as you can already guess from the blurb. Jason is MIA in Afghanistan and it’s been about 4 weeks here. David is prepared to have Jason not come back. He believes that Jason is most likely dead.

Carole (David’s ex) comes over late, drops the kids off and tucks them into bed. Afterwards they’re talking and then suddendly they’re kissing and they end up in bed together.

David regrets it even before they’re finished sleeping together and eventually they both agree it was a very large mistake and it won’t happen again. (Oh come on, like you’ve never slept with an Ex).

(Ready for the spoiler part?) When Jason returns home (oh come on you knew he was going to get rescued) he struggles with his feelings about returning home and being rescued. Jason sinks into depression and after three weeks of being home he admits that he’s afraid that David will leave him. He reveals to David that he slept with Ash while they were MIA. Not because he loves Ash but because they both needed it in that moment.

David is hurt but he tells Jason he can’t be mad at him because he  slept with Carole while he was MIA. This information pushes Jason over the edge.  He picks up a gun (albeit unloaded). David stops him and takes the gun away calling 911.

This action forces Jason to get the help he needs to face everything that he’s been through. So David sleeping with Carole is an utterly important moment, but I’m wondering if it can be left out and made a shock or if it should go in the book, or if I should just send the whole thing into the scrap heap!!

What do you think?

So today’s six again comes from “Boots on the Ground” Two weeks ago we heard part of Jason’s wedding vows, and last week we heard David’s.

For this week’s six well… Don’t kill me ok?

*~*

“Bastard,” she whispered. “Just fuck me already.”

David slide up her body and propped himself up on his elbows, one of her legs hooked around the back of his knee. He was just about to enter her when she stopped him. “We need to be safe,” she reminded him.

Shit, he didn’t know if he had any condoms him and Jason had stopped using them last year.
