February 16, 2018 by Angela

I am so excited about this novella!!!

At RTC in 2016 ‘Nathan and I decided we wanted to write something together, It took almost 2 years and a lot of work, but here we are. Saving the Date is about surviving the worst and coming out on top. There is no easy route after a trauma, but with the help of a fairy godmother, a little sprinkling of magic from Madame Eve and a whole lot of luck, good or bad, Morgan and Zach are in for one unforgettable night, and maybe if they’re lucky, a little bit more.

After a vicious gay bashing, Morgan has spent the last three years working hard to survive and thrive. His latest plan? Using Madame Evangeline’s high-end dating service, 1NightStand, to take the anniversary of the worst night of his life and replace it with a good—and maybe even sexy—memory.

Zach, a police officer with the Hate & Bias Crime Unit, is still coming to terms with his divorce and struggling to move on with his life. Using a matchmaking service is so very not his style, but sometimes a guy has to trust his friends—even if they don’t know everything about him, and he’s not sure they ever will.

Face-to-face, however, it becomes clear that despite an attraction, there’s a problem. Morgan and Zach have already met—three years ago. But with some courage, a couple of pairs of skates, and a leap of faith? Morgan and Zach have a shot at saving more than one day. Together? They might just make a future.

“Sorry, you’re not Morgan, are you?”

“Are you Zach?”

The big guy nodded. “Yeah.” He swallowed, as if the word caught in his throat. “I’m Zach.”

Okay, the important thing here is not to drool on the table.

“Sorry,” he said, fumbling for words of his own. He had to crane his neck to talk to the guy.

Had there been a checkbox for “big, Teutonic warrior heritage”? Because it seemed he’d checked it off. “I, uh. Wow. You are tall.”

The big guy—his date, Morgan corrected himself—cracked a wan smile.

“Sit down.” Morgan gestured to the empty chair. “Please.”

Zach hesitated for another second—Morgan tried to convince himself the blond wasn’t looking for a reasonable escape plan—then pulled out the chair and sat down. No amount of padding could account for the width of the man’s shoulders.

Morgan exhaled. “So. On a scale of one to a billion, how awkward is this?”

Zach seemed to surprise himself with a laugh. “You have no idea. I’m sorry I’m late. Traffic. And, uh …. There’s something….” He frowned. The intensity of his gaze unnerved him.

“Do I have something on my face?” He’d not ordered hot chocolate to avoid whipped cream accidents.

Zach blinked. “Sorry. No. I’m….” He shook his head. “Would you believe you look familiar?”

“Like your dead girlfriend?” Morgan grinned, singing the words.

“Excuse me?” Zach leaned back, frowning.

“Oh. Not a Rent fan, eh?” Morgan held up his hands. “Sorry. When I’m nervous, I become a font of inappropriate humor . I’m told it’s endearing. Y’know, by, like, my misfit friends.” Morgan bit his lip. “Which probably means it’s not endearing, come to think of it.”

Zach stared at him.

“It’s a line from a musical,” Morgan said. “And I’ll stop now.” He clenched his jaw shut before he could say anything else.

Zach took a deep breath. “Were you expecting…? Uh. I mean, did…?” He didn’t meet Morgan’s gaze, and he rubbed his thumb up and down his coffee cup. He had a little scar through his eyebrow, and—

“Wait,” Morgan said. When Zach raised his eyebrows, the familiarity faded, but it had been there. “Maybe I do know you. Do you ever shop at Urbane Myth? It’s a consignment shop in the Village. You’d never forget Phoebe, the owner. She’s a glamazon. I’m less memorable.”

Zach shook his head. “No. I don’t know it.”

Morgan frowned. “Okay. What about you? Where do you work?”

Zach cleared his throat, shifting in his seat. No way could the big guy be comfortable in the little chair. “I’m a cop.”

Oh no. Oh for the love of ….

“A cop.”

Zach nodded, then added, “With the Hate and—”

“Bias Crimes Unit.”

They stared at each other.

“On a scale of one to a billion?” Zach said. “We just hit a billion.”

Glass shattering on the solarium floor made him whip his head that way. Jaden stood in stunned silence, her hand over her mouth. Red wine and glass littered the floor.

“Jay?” Cameron dropped the potholder and rushed to her, stopping short of her due to the glass. “Jay, honey, what’s wrong?”

Tears streamed down her face, and she waved her arms in front of her face, distraught.

“Jaden talk to me.” She shook her head. “Can you hear me?” Fear filled Cam’s face. She shook her head. “Paul,” Cam shouted.

The older man signed to Jaden who just shook her head.

Nate joined them. “What’s going on?”

“I don’t know.” Logan looked toward Jaden. “I think something is hurting her telepathic abilities.”

Her gaze swung to him, and she started pointing frantically.

Paul reached out to her. “Jay, we don’t understand.”

Jaden balled her hands at her sides and squeezed her eyes shut. “Kkhhssss,” she half whispered, half shouted. All five men stopped and stared at her. A single tear tracked down her face. “Kkkssss.”

“Chris?” His mind jumped forward. “Something’s wrong with Chris?”

She nodded then fainted, hitting the floor with a dull thud.

Cover Art Reveal!!-Duty, Honor, Love

May 29, 2015 by Angela

DutyHonorLove_large_nologo

Blurb:

Cameron Olsen believes in three things: the duty to his badge, the honor of being a police officer, and the love he has for his partner.

As a member of Toronto’s elite Special Investigations Unit, he has the privilege of working with Jaden Black, a powerful but naive telepath. As they hunt down a child rapist and killer and the case takes an unexpected turn, Cameron questions his badge, his profession, and who exactly his partner is, and what she’s been hiding from him.

Excerpt:

All of the sudden, Jaden froze. Panic radiated from her. Not words, but pure emotions hit him square in the chest.

No. It couldn’t be.

Jaden choked down the bite of muffin she’d been chewing on. She closed the lid of her laptop, stuffed it in the case, and hurried out of the coffee shop. The pain she projected left him surprised no one else stopped to stare at her.

He grabbed their drinks, leaving the half-eaten muffins on the table. He shoved past a dark-haired woman going into the coffee shop as he ran after Jaden.

He found her curled in a ball in the backseat of her SUV. Tears streaked her face, her heavy eye makeup running into a mess. He climbed in, opening his arms to her, and she buried her face in his chest. He patted the back of her head, smoothing her jet-black bob. His heart broke a tiny bit. He could count on one hand the number of times he’d seen Jaden this upset. Whatever she felt, it was bad and had changed his crass, flippant partner into a scared kid herself.

“What happened?”

She didn’t answer.

“Jay, talk to me. What happened?”

A wave of sorrow hit him. “Emily. I….”

Images flashed into his brain. He could make out the dark figure of a man…and the chain. He could feel the squeeze around his neck and her final thought of how she wanted her mommy.

Hop Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2015

May 17, 2015 by Angela

2015Png

International Day  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is May 17th 2015

People often ask me “Why?”; Why am I an Ally? Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community? Why do I write “gay” novels? Why do I insist on having my voice heard?  Why do I write “gay” novels?

I’ve decided to answer those questions here for you in honor of the Intentional day against  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

Why am I an Ally?

I think this question is the easiest to answer. Because Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia still exist! I live in Canada, a free country where you are free to live where you want, with who you want, to love who you want to marry whom you want, to build a life, and children with whom every you wish to, and yet Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia are still here.

My Friend’s daughter was bulled on Friday, yes! last Friday she was bullied at school for being gay, her and her friends were called “unnatural queers” and several other names by a bully all because they dared to meet for their high school’s Gay-Straight-Alliance club.

I’m an Ally because I hate that my friends have to look around before they hold hands, or kiss? in public? only if they want to risk being called horrible names.

I’m an Ally because as a white, straight (ish) female I have privileges that others do not, and it’s my job to fight for others to have those same rights and freedoms and privileges that I experience.

Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community?

The answer is mostly because i’m fighting for myself. I present as straight (I’ve been with the same amazing guy for 4 almost years-He better pop the question soon!) but really i’m bisexual with a preference towards men. Sexuality isn’t black or white it’s a spectrum. My best friend considers himself firmly bisexual, he’s equally attracted to men and women, he just happens to be married to a man. My other friend is queer-gendered, they feel as though as are both or a mix of male and female, and they have a strong preference towards women. My really good friend from university, we’ll call him “Bob”, I went to school with “Bob” he was an awesome classmate, then he left us and we met “Sue” [Side note “Sue” prefers when we talk about her in the past tense that if she was presenting as male we use male pronouns]Sue is amazing she is a transsexual woman, but really she’s a straight woman, She is engaged to the most amazing guy (so exited for heir wedding!).

So I fight not only to support my friends but to support my self. I believe in equality for all.

Why do I write “gay” novels?

Well! As I mentioned previously, I’m attract to men, so two men equals double the fun!! Also my newest book, Duty, Honor, Love, coming out on June 30th features a MMF relationship in that the main character is bisexual. Also there is a book about a transsexual nurse in the pipe line and *gasp* a straight book too! I write about love, and whatever format that takes.

Why do I insist on having my voice heard?

Who do I talk about this issue, why am I known as the go-to person for gender and sexual orientation equality issues, why have I stood on Parliament hill here in Ottawa and screamed at the top of my lungs until I had no voice left that all Canadians deserve equal rights?

Because as a white straight(ish) women, my voice is taken seriously.People listen to me, if I can get one person to reconsider, one person to change their opinion or their view have ONE person say maybe it’s not the end of the world if two people are in love, then I’ve made the world a better place and that’s all I can ask for.

I hope everyone enjoys hopping around the internet and joining in the one voice, one message that Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is wrong and the only want we are going to change it is through education and love.

Once Again I am the poster child for why you need to BACK UP YOUR NOVEL!!!

November 21, 2014 by Angela

As I preach about things like Dropbox and google drives, many of you have heard my story about how I lost more than half of my novel “Duty, Honor, Love” (coming soon! Keep an eye out for the cover release!) and a little luck, some illegal software and lots of prayers got me back less than 1000 words away from where I was.

So I preach all of the time BACK YOUR NOVEL UP.

Guess what I didn’t do last night?!

SAVE MY WORK!

This morning my SO turned my laptop on and boom, my Hard Drive was missing, BIOS couldn’t read it massive error. *headdesk* *repeatedly*

Now it’s not the end of the world (Or so I keep telling myself) I wrote 1538 words last night (not bad for a migraine of epic proportions) but I didn’t save it!!

It is very much one of these shoot me now moments. I thankfully have a copy from the day before on my dropbox and I think I can maybe pull up my autosave file, but it’s so frustrating.

If you are reading this post stop everything you’re doing! SAVE AND BACK UP YOUR NOVEL! If you’re using a USB remember to save to your hard drive and to the USB and eject it. Upload a different copy with today’s date to Google drive and to dropbox in a different file/folder that you usually use. Email yourself a copy. If you’re writing by hand, scan it or photocopy it and stick it in a fire safe box!

There is nothing more frustrating in the world than loosing part of your novel, even if it was only 1500 odd words!
