Cover Art Reveal!!-Duty, Honor, Love

May 29, 2015 by Angela

DutyHonorLove_large_nologo

Blurb:

Cameron Olsen believes in three things: the duty to his badge, the honor of being a police officer, and the love he has for his partner.

As a member of Toronto’s elite Special Investigations Unit, he has the privilege of working with Jaden Black, a powerful but naive telepath. As they hunt down a child rapist and killer and the case takes an unexpected turn, Cameron questions his badge, his profession, and who exactly his partner is, and what she’s been hiding from him.

Excerpt:

All of the sudden, Jaden froze. Panic radiated from her. Not words, but pure emotions hit him square in the chest.

No. It couldn’t be.

Jaden choked down the bite of muffin she’d been chewing on. She closed the lid of her laptop, stuffed it in the case, and hurried out of the coffee shop. The pain she projected left him surprised no one else stopped to stare at her.

He grabbed their drinks, leaving the half-eaten muffins on the table. He shoved past a dark-haired woman going into the coffee shop as he ran after Jaden.

He found her curled in a ball in the backseat of her SUV. Tears streaked her face, her heavy eye makeup running into a mess. He climbed in, opening his arms to her, and she buried her face in his chest. He patted the back of her head, smoothing her jet-black bob. His heart broke a tiny bit. He could count on one hand the number of times he’d seen Jaden this upset. Whatever she felt, it was bad and had changed his crass, flippant partner into a scared kid herself.

“What happened?”

She didn’t answer.

“Jay, talk to me. What happened?”

A wave of sorrow hit him. “Emily. I….”

Images flashed into his brain. He could make out the dark figure of a man…and the chain. He could feel the squeeze around his neck and her final thought of how she wanted her mommy.

Home is Where the Heat Is, Book 1

BookCover_BringMeHomeMiya Jackson always believed life had more to offer outside Dead End, Texas. So when circumstances turned her life upside down, she took her chance to break free. A few years—and some brutal doses of reality—later, her little sister’s wedding brings her back to the hometown she left behind.

The last place she expects is to end up is in the arms of the man she’s tried and failed to forget. One scalding, passionate night is all it takes to make her rethink her damn good reasons for leaving.

Shawn Dalton always hoped this day would come. Hell, he and Miya have a history, and any misunderstandings can be fixed if she’ll only stay in one spot long enough. Now that’s she’s back, he’s determined to make her see that she belongs in Dead End. With him.

Her obstinate nature is intact, but he can deal with that. It’s the cold, detached woman she’s become that worries him. Melting that wall—and reminding Miya of her roots—is going to take every hot, sinful moment he can wrangle.

Excerpt:

Shawn hooked another bale of hay and maneuvered it into the barn. “Lot can change in four years.”

“We’re talking about my dad. Not us.” She followed him into the cooler recesses of the barn. A huge row of hay bales lined the farthest side of the barn. “But thank you for helping him.”

“No thanks needed.” Every muscle strained as he lifted the bale into place. “Your folks are good people, and your Ma was worried when he fell after the reception. I was just in the right place at the right time.”

“Wait, what?” Miya watched her father enter the house.

He walked past her to grab another bale. “I guess he tripped. I’d stopped by to congratulate your sister on her wedding and your Ma asked me to look at his ankle. I figured she would have told you.”

“She didn’t.” Miya took a deep breath to ease the guilt clawing at her throat. She was home, and she still didn’t see what was right in front of her. “I should be thanking you.”

He shook his head and adjusted his hat. “Don’t need it. I did what anyone would do. They’re my neighbors.”

He knocked his gloves against his jeans a couple times before swiping at the hay clinging to his body. A few stray pieces clung to his hair and sweat-dampened skin, and she walked over to pluck them away. “Still. It’s not your responsibility and I want you to know I appreciate it.”

He barely moved, at least it seemed that way. Must have been more than she realized since somehow, she found herself backed up against one of the tall support beams bracing the sagging rafters. A sinful smile creased his dust-streaked face. “It’s my pleasure.”

Goddess Fish Tour-Rite of Summer by Tess Bowery-Guest Blog-Review & Giveaway!!

May 19, 2015 by Angela

VBT_TourBanner_RiteOfSummer

Talk about your favourite scene or moment from the book, what makes it so special to you?

There are a couple of ‘favorite moments’ that I’m not going to talk about, because they happen closer to the end of the book and might give too much away. That being said, there’s a particular moment that I’m terribly fond of, coming up on the one-quarter mark or so.
My heroes, Joshua and Stephen, have only known each other for a couple of days, and in that time, Joshua’s already managed to walk in on – and then get busted watching – Stephen and his current lover in flagrante delicto. So at this point, Joshua is well aware that Stephen has carnal interest in men, and Stephen is mostly certain that Joshua does as well; what Joshua doesn’t know yet is that Stephen’s relationship is an open one, and they often bring in third parties. And of course, while there’s a potent physical attraction between them, the guys don’t yet know anything about each other as people.
Stephen comes upon Joshua while Joshua – an artist – is sketching by the riverbank. Joshua’s convinced that Stephen’s going to give him hell for walking in on Stephen and Evander in the conservatory, but Stephen just sits down and makes small talk for a while.
It’s a simple scene, not a lot happens in it action-wise. In my original outline, it gets summed up as ‘Joshua and Stephen chat by the river.’ But there’s a certain mix of both tranquility and uncertainty running through their conversation that really appeals to me – that delicious stage of ‘does he like me? How will I know? Does he know that I like him, too?’ – that’s at the core of that all-encompassing new-crush energy we all love.
It also gave me a great chance to start peeling back the layers of these characters, to have them – along with the readers – learn a little bit about each other beyond their initial ‘hot daaaaamn, son’ reactions.
That emotional connection is so vital to the core of any good romance. We have to be able to see the heroes as people who are truly suited for each other, who will be able to forge something that will last long into middle and old age. I always need my love interests to be friends at some level; either before their sexual relationship begins, or something that develops alongside the sexual, so that you can picture their romance as only the beginning of something that will stay satisfying for both of them, forever.
And I’ve just outed myself as a ridiculous romantic now, I suppose. I’m in this business because I dream of happy endings, though, and for me it’s connection and belonging – the sense that another human being knows everything about you and loves you regardless – that drives the most brilliant love stories.
—
If I can, I’d like to take the chance here to divert slightly. While the book blog tour has a series of dated stops, the posts and interviews haven’t all been done at the same time. This is the last one I received, and I slacked off so long on finishing it, that good news has happened in the mean time – which means that you get the exclusive reveal! I’ve officially signed the contract with Samhain for the second book in Treading the Boards.
The book is titled She Whom I Love, and is the story of Sophie, a secondary character you’ll meet in Rite of Summer – a woman very important in Joshua’s life. She has her own romance(s) brewing, and a love triangle with a rather different sort of resolution. That book will be out in December, so please keep an eye on my webpage, tumblr and/or twitter accounts for news.

Blurb

BookCover_RiteOfSummerThere are terrors worse than stage fright. Like falling in love.

Violinist Stephen Ashbrook is passionate about three things—his music, the excitement of life in London, and his lover, Evander Cade. It’s too bad that Evander only loves himself. A house party at their patron’s beautiful country estate seems like a chance for Stephen to remember who he is, when he’s not trying to live up to someone else’s harsh expectations.

Joshua Beaufort, a painter whose works are very much in demand among the right sort of people, has no expectations about this party at all. Until, that is, he finds out who else is on the guest list. Joshua swore off love long ago, but has been infatuated with Stephen since seeing his brilliant performance at Vauxhall. Now he has the chance to meet the object of his lust face to face—and more.

But changing an open relationship to a triad is a lot more complicated than it seems, and while Evander’s trying to climb the social ladder, Stephen’s trying to climb Joshua. When the dust settles, only two will remain standing…

Excerpt

Joshua lowered himself into the armchair in his room, and loosened his cravat with a peevish snap.

“That bad, was it?” Sophie asked from the chair opposite, her legs curled under her. She closed the book in her hands, tucking it into her lap. It said something that he wasn’t the least bit surprised by her presence, though by all rights he should have been appropriately scandalized. He could always tell her to leave, as though that would do any good. The girl was like a cat; she went where she pleased and did what she liked, and woe betide anyone but her employer who tried to force her otherwise.

“I had no idea,” Joshua said, checking first to be sure the door was most securely closed, “that her ladyship had such strong opinions about the idea of gas lighting.”

“Ooh, yes, did she get on about that again?” Sophie replied with a pleased grin. “’Those gas lines will be a blight on the city,’” she imitated bitingly. “’They’re an invitation to treachery and a first stage toward a new Gunpowder Plot,’ to hear her go on. And did you know,” she asked rhetorically, the light of mischief in her eyes, “that they’re sinful as well? Apparently Our Lord and Savior would prefer candlelight.”

“Lord save us from the march of progress,” Joshua sighed, and rubbed his forehead. Exhaustion nipped around the edges of his eyes, his shoulders aching. “You were quite right, by the way.” He glanced up at Sophie, not too tired to add to her amusement. “Lady Chalcroft’s got her eye set on Coventry for her eldest. The two of them would set on her rivals like a pair of wild dogs if they thought it would get her a hand-span closer to a coronet.”

Review:

I have a confession to make. While I love historical fiction (And GBTL historicals? *FLAIL*), I dislike ones written in the regency style as thus book is. Despite my disappointment I found myself thoroughly enjoying the novel! Hot sex, and a fantastic, and interesting story line kept in interest right to the very end. I won’t spoil you, (because really!! You NEED to know who Stephen chooses in the end) I will say the ending was not what I expected-in a good way. It took me a little while to get into the novel, it’s an excellent début novel from a fantastic new author and I look forward to reading anything she puts forth in the future.

If you like GBTL Historicals  in the Regency style hands down this book is for you!

Hop Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2015

May 17, 2015 by Angela

2015Png

International Day  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is May 17th 2015

People often ask me “Why?”; Why am I an Ally? Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community? Why do I write “gay” novels? Why do I insist on having my voice heard?  Why do I write “gay” novels?

I’ve decided to answer those questions here for you in honor of the Intentional day against  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

Why am I an Ally?

I think this question is the easiest to answer. Because Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia still exist! I live in Canada, a free country where you are free to live where you want, with who you want, to love who you want to marry whom you want, to build a life, and children with whom every you wish to, and yet Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia are still here.

My Friend’s daughter was bulled on Friday, yes! last Friday she was bullied at school for being gay, her and her friends were called “unnatural queers” and several other names by a bully all because they dared to meet for their high school’s Gay-Straight-Alliance club.

I’m an Ally because I hate that my friends have to look around before they hold hands, or kiss? in public? only if they want to risk being called horrible names.

I’m an Ally because as a white, straight (ish) female I have privileges that others do not, and it’s my job to fight for others to have those same rights and freedoms and privileges that I experience.

Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community?

The answer is mostly because i’m fighting for myself. I present as straight (I’ve been with the same amazing guy for 4 almost years-He better pop the question soon!) but really i’m bisexual with a preference towards men. Sexuality isn’t black or white it’s a spectrum. My best friend considers himself firmly bisexual, he’s equally attracted to men and women, he just happens to be married to a man. My other friend is queer-gendered, they feel as though as are both or a mix of male and female, and they have a strong preference towards women. My really good friend from university, we’ll call him “Bob”, I went to school with “Bob” he was an awesome classmate, then he left us and we met “Sue” [Side note “Sue” prefers when we talk about her in the past tense that if she was presenting as male we use male pronouns]Sue is amazing she is a transsexual woman, but really she’s a straight woman, She is engaged to the most amazing guy (so exited for heir wedding!).

So I fight not only to support my friends but to support my self. I believe in equality for all.

Why do I write “gay” novels?

Well! As I mentioned previously, I’m attract to men, so two men equals double the fun!! Also my newest book, Duty, Honor, Love, coming out on June 30th features a MMF relationship in that the main character is bisexual. Also there is a book about a transsexual nurse in the pipe line and *gasp* a straight book too! I write about love, and whatever format that takes.

Why do I insist on having my voice heard?

Who do I talk about this issue, why am I known as the go-to person for gender and sexual orientation equality issues, why have I stood on Parliament hill here in Ottawa and screamed at the top of my lungs until I had no voice left that all Canadians deserve equal rights?

Because as a white straight(ish) women, my voice is taken seriously.People listen to me, if I can get one person to reconsider, one person to change their opinion or their view have ONE person say maybe it’s not the end of the world if two people are in love, then I’ve made the world a better place and that’s all I can ask for.

I hope everyone enjoys hopping around the internet and joining in the one voice, one message that Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is wrong and the only want we are going to change it is through education and love.

Goddess Fish Tour-A Vixen in Venice-Prizes!

May 8, 2015 by Angela

MBB_TourBanner_AVixenInVenice copy

Blurb:

MediaKit_BookCover_AVixenInVeniceHe’s an art thief on the run…with her heart Look closer, into Hotel Totally Five Star Venice, where art curator Monique Le Bres has just walked through the doors of the newly opened swanky luxury hotel to assist with their art collection.

Alessandro Bonnard, the world-renowned art connoisseur and collector has been sent incognito to supervise Monique and oversee her acquisitions for the hotel.

Concealing his true identity, Alessandro is intrigued by the art-loving vixen with an appetite for kinky sex. He pursues Monique, charming her at every turn — taking her to places she’s never been — both in and out of bedroom.

Monique falls hard for the man who has utterly captured her body and soul. Only to find out he isn’t who she thought he was after all…he’s an art thief on the run…with her heart.

Excerpt:

Waiting a good half hour, Monique was quite sure the coast was clear after her supervisor had departed. Weary from her travels she couldn’t wait to get back to her nice room and fall fast asleep in the sumptuous looking bed.

Stepping out of her office, Monique headed for the elevator at the end of the hall, noticing each door she passed had a nametag with identifiers. Sales the Direttore Vendite. Food and Beverage. Diretorre del Marketing. Director of Marketing and so on.

The subdued hush of voices from an adjoining hallway made Monique stop in her tracks.Pausing, she listened. The soft giggles intrigued her. Tiptoeing towards the sound, she peered around the corner. Near the end of the hall, she glimpsed Donovan’s silhouette as he leaned against a woman, kissing her. His hands holding hers above her head as she hooked one long leg around his waist, pulling him closer to her as they embraced passionately.

Monique’s key slipped from her hand and tinkled noisily on the wood floor. Mouth agape, her cheeks flamed as Donovan looked up and nodded to her from down the long hallway. Then the woman looked at her too. Monique immediately recognized the young blonde with the pixie cut hair and the cute little body from the lobby. The one she’d seen Donovan pat on the ass when Monique had first arrived.

The young woman merely smiled at Monique, her legs still wrapped around her supervisor’s hips, and then returned to kissing Donovan. Running her hands along his wide shoulders before he spun her around and planted his hands on her ass, pulling her too him. Hard. Monique looked away, but then back again. Strangely aroused at the unbridled passion, she was aware her nipples peaked under her silk blouse as she watched his hands slide over her curves and slide up and then up and under her skirt.

She tugged the woman’s panties down. She kicked them off with flair. Crumpled, the lace thong lay in the hall while the lovers went at it. Grabbing, tasting, and kissing. Monique was aware her own panties were moist, shocked by her own enjoyment at watching them. Hiking the woman’s skirt up further, Donovan pursued her, baring her sculpted thighs and making Monique’s body quiver as she watched when Donovan slid his fingers between the woman’s legs. A soft groan escaped his lover’s mouth as they kissed and she tugged impatiently at his belt.

Monique gulped an audible gulp. Donovan cocked at eye in her direction. Monique quickly retreated, embarrassed to have been caught standing there enjoying spying on the lovers.

Food.

We’ve actually been enemies for a while. As in…hmm….going on 12 years.

My digestive system wonked out when I had my son. Took me several years to figure out it was WAY different and then several more years to figure out what was really wrong. I have several food allergies. Cheese is the biggy, and cheap sugar. Oof. Yeah. Eating out can be a challenge.

Long story short my body kind of forgot what it was supposed to do with food. The nerves in my stomach register food as pain. It was pretty rough. But after 2 years of testing they tried a magic little pill that costs me literally $4 a month that helps me SOOOOOO much. Craziness!!! So thankful my docs stuck with me and didn’t let me give up on finding an answer to all my digestive nightmares.

Now, what’s ironic about this is I tend to write foodies into my books.

In, Final Surrender, it’s Mark, Angela’s brother and Clay’s best friend. He loves Danish, and NYC coffee, and Chinese food and yeah….the list goes on.

I’d always seen tv shows and movies and read articles about the food in NYC being incredible so I did some research when I wrote this book on places people loved to eat. Chinese Merch and Meli Melo were two places in Manhattan where Angela would be that fit perfectly into the book.

At Christmas in 2013 my parents and I took my son to NYC for the first time. I fell in love. The noise of the city, the hustle and bustle of the subway and train stations and cabs, wonderful. Not overwhelming or awful. The trash on the other hand – OMG!!!

And something we made sure to do was eat lots of iconic foods. A hot dog from a street vendor, chestnuts, French Macarons as an anniversary present for my parents, Champagne and so many things in between. I’ve gone back several times since and absolutely love it…including the food!!!

BookCover_FinalSurrenderBLURB:

Ten years ago, Angela Meyers told everyone she went to New York to find herself. It was a lie. She fled from the aftermath of one hot night with Clay Waters. A night filled with wet heat, all-consuming releases…then his regret.

Now, with a stalker threatening to destroy her career, there’s only one man she trusts to protect her. The man she still loves, hates, needs with every breath she takes.
It’s not that Clay never craved his best friend’s younger sister. With a ticket to boot camp burning a hole in his pocket, he couldn’t allow himself to love her. The moment he lays eyes on her again, the old need—to take down her tightly wound hair, press her long, lean body to his—surges inside him stronger than ever.
But this is no ordinary bodyguard assignment. The best way to identify the voice in Angela’s shadow is to lure it into the light of day. Even if it means convincing her to trust him with her heart…and surrendering his own.

Excerpt:

Clay kept silent and let the new reality of what she was…what they were dealing with sink in. He absentmindedly played with her hair. His fingertips pulled the wet strands slowly to the end. Angela licked her lips nervously, glancing at Clay out of the corner of her eyes.

“Are you trying to distract me?”

“Yes, is it working?” he asked with a playboy smile she didn’t know he still possessed.

“It always works, Clay. Anybody else I can tune out. Everybody else is on the outside, except for you. You’ve always been my Achilles’ heel, but you know that.”

Angela laid her head back against the couch cushions and decided she needed to stop talking. Her insides were already feeling hot and needy, and wanting this man beside her wasn’t going to help her heart or her life stay in one piece. She was brave last night in the near darkness of her bedroom. This morning, not so much.

“I’m nothing special. You could have any man you wanted, and that’s the God’s honest truth.”

He got up and took his cup back to the kitchen and didn’t hear her whisper, “Not every man I want, apparently.”

After he sat back down he asked, “So, want to go out and take a walk, or do you want to stick around here, order in and watch reality TV?”

She lifted her head off the couch with a scoff and said, “You don’t really watch that crap, do you? Every moment you watch is more brain cells you’ll never get back.”

“Please, what do you watch, almighty TV guru?

“The Big Bang Theory, which is the only sitcom that should be allowed on TV. It is fantastically funny. Always makes me laugh no matter what I have going on. Have you ever seen it?”

“Nope, but if it makes you laugh, with that perma scowl you’ve got going on, then it must be pretty good.”

Clay got hit with a pillow out of the blue and he turned to see Angela hiding a wicked grin behind her hand.

“Oh, if you didn’t have a concussion, it would so be on.”

“Well, see, there’s the silver lining of being blown off those steps. I win a pillow fight with you by default. My day is complete. Oh no, not yet. I haven’t had any chocolate.”

“Chocolate, the way to every woman’s heart.”

“Of course it is.”

“So you want to venture out?” he asked again.

“I don’t know,” she answered softly.

“Scared?”

“Little bit. I feel like I’ve got a big target on my back. I don’t want to hunker down and hide from the world, but maybe today we could keep a low profile. I’ve gotta call Mark and my parents.” She stammered again at the thought of being alone with Clay all day and the rest of her breath left her lungs in a rush as Clay’s knuckles brushed her cheek.

“How about we’ll dress you up.” His voice was soft and seductive. “That way you can feel safe and still get out for a little while.”

He stood and looked down into her wide doe eyes and without thinking, she took his hand and let him pull her to her feet.

He mesmerized her with a simple glance. He was two different people, one when they were alone and another when others were around. But she was too, if she really wanted to admit it. They were more alike than she cared to recognize.

The head injury had left her weak and a bit dazed, but Clay standing in front of her threw her completely off balance. He pulled her into his arms and she rested her cheek on his chest as he stroked her hair.

“We’ll fix this.”

“My stalker or us?” she asked before she could clamp her mouth shut.

“Hopefully both before you get completely sick of me and kick me out, like you’ve been threatening.”

“It’s no threat, Clay,” she said, pulling away from him so she could wander back to her bedroom. “It’s a promise,” she added with a snicker.

“Ah yes, but I know the secret to making you happy now,” he said as he moved to follow her.

“What’s that?”

“Chocolate.”
