Nostalgia

July 21, 2011 by admin

Tonight we’re having KFC for dinner. It seems silly but it’s a little piece of my childhood.

I grew up in a tiny town of about 1500 people in Nova Scotia. When I was going up it was tough, three kids on a Petty Officer’s Salary in the 90’s was hard (yes i’m a navy brat). The pay check didn’t always stretch very far. I remember more than once my mom rolling pennies so I could have enough money to go on a school trip.

So needless to say we didn’t get take-out very often. Actually almost never. There were two places in my small town for take-out. A local run Pizza place (which has been owned and run by the same family since they started the business up 16 some years ago) and a KFC.

We would have KFC maybe once a year. *Maybe*. It was always a huge treat, and yeah we’re having that for dinner tonight.

So it seems silly but it’s a tiny bit of my childhood and it reminds me how good I have it now. My dad is finally making a good salary, my mom is working full time we have a fantastic house and yes as a single nurse I’m doing better than my parents were twenty years ago.

I think it reminds me of all of the hard times, and how lucky I am to be where I am today.

So here is to Nostalgia and never forgetting where you came from and always looking forward to the future because it’s always bright.

█ ♥ █ Happy Canada Day █ ♥ █

July 1, 2011 by admin

In case you haven’t noticed I hold a .ca domain name. I am a very proud Canadian girl!

Today in celebration of being Canadain, I want to tell you all of the reasons I love Canada, and if you haven’t been, why you should really come and visit!

1. Be who you want to be, not matter who you are.

You can be who ever you want to be, and no one can persecute you.

2. Education for all

Out education system is free for everyone, yes there are school fees, and yes university does cost, but our basic go to school to get a high-school diploma, or go back to school to update when you’re 30, or get your diploma when you’re 50? Free.

3. Health Care

If you walk into any hospital, any clinic you will  be treated –for free–. You get the best treatment possible, if you make $8.50 an hour, or 8 million a year. Do you have to wait? Sometimes yes. If you you *need* it now, you get it now.  Our system is based off of worse case first, not who has the most money.

4. True equality.

In Canada we have the Charter of rights and freedoms.  You have the right to be who you are, the right to which religion and the right to who you want to love.  You have the legal right to marry -who- you want. You can do -what- you want. It’s amazing and very few other countries in the world can claim this.

Just a few reasons why I love living in Canada. There are so many more!

I hope everyone has a great Canada Day/Fourth of July weekend! Stay safe and don’t forget every comment on my blog from June 25th to July 26th at midnight enters you into win one of TWO prizes!!

Rejections, the good and the bad

June 20, 2011 by admin

So I subbed my latest book to two publishers on Saturday morning.

Monday morning at at 8:05 am I got my first rejection. The good news is that it was personal feedback, not your standard form-rejection. So that’s something.

The bad:

1. Mechanics need some work

2. More spit and polish needed

3. Not right for this publisher.

The good:

1. They thought the concept was good and had potential

2. They recommended that I have a look see at other publishers who might fit my needs.

I’m kinda sad to receive this rejection as I really wanted to work with this publisher, however I understand their reasons especially if they think it won’t work with their audience.

So onwards and upwards, waiting on publisher #2 who I would also like to work with before I start looking at others. In the mean time I’ll be spitting and polishing as much as possible before my next ’round of subs.

xx

Now onto the goodies! This week’s six is from my debut novel “Sometimes It’s Fate” coming out July 25th from Phaze books!

*~*

Jason was eating the lunch he brought while doing paper work when Monica came back into the main office area. “No rookie dinner?” she asked getting herself a cup of coffee from the machine tucked away in the corner.

“Tomorrow,” Jason replied with a smile and Monica groaned.

“Is it going to involve apologising to anyone, or messy clean up, or other organizations?” she asked closing her eyes.

“Probably not, no and not likely,” Jason answered.

“Then I don’t want to know.”

*~*

A little scheming there to welcome the new rookie to the force :)!

Stay tuned for lots of blog tours, promo’s and excerpts leading up to my novel Debut!!!

xx
