Hop Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2015

May 17, 2015 by Angela

2015Png

International Day  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is May 17th 2015

People often ask me “Why?”; Why am I an Ally? Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community? Why do I write “gay” novels? Why do I insist on having my voice heard?  Why do I write “gay” novels?

I’ve decided to answer those questions here for you in honor of the Intentional day against  Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

Why am I an Ally?

I think this question is the easiest to answer. Because Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia still exist! I live in Canada, a free country where you are free to live where you want, with who you want, to love who you want to marry whom you want, to build a life, and children with whom every you wish to, and yet Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia are still here.

My Friend’s daughter was bulled on Friday, yes! last Friday she was bullied at school for being gay, her and her friends were called “unnatural queers” and several other names by a bully all because they dared to meet for their high school’s Gay-Straight-Alliance club.

I’m an Ally because I hate that my friends have to look around before they hold hands, or kiss? in public? only if they want to risk being called horrible names.

I’m an Ally because as a white, straight (ish) female I have privileges that others do not, and it’s my job to fight for others to have those same rights and freedoms and privileges that I experience.

Why do I fight so hard to support the GBTL community?

The answer is mostly because i’m fighting for myself. I present as straight (I’ve been with the same amazing guy for 4 almost years-He better pop the question soon!) but really i’m bisexual with a preference towards men. Sexuality isn’t black or white it’s a spectrum. My best friend considers himself firmly bisexual, he’s equally attracted to men and women, he just happens to be married to a man. My other friend is queer-gendered, they feel as though as are both or a mix of male and female, and they have a strong preference towards women. My really good friend from university, we’ll call him “Bob”, I went to school with “Bob” he was an awesome classmate, then he left us and we met “Sue” [Side note “Sue” prefers when we talk about her in the past tense that if she was presenting as male we use male pronouns]Sue is amazing she is a transsexual woman, but really she’s a straight woman, She is engaged to the most amazing guy (so exited for heir wedding!).

So I fight not only to support my friends but to support my self. I believe in equality for all.

Why do I write “gay” novels?

Well! As I mentioned previously, I’m attract to men, so two men equals double the fun!! Also my newest book, Duty, Honor, Love, coming out on June 30th features a MMF relationship in that the main character is bisexual. Also there is a book about a transsexual nurse in the pipe line and *gasp* a straight book too! I write about love, and whatever format that takes.

Why do I insist on having my voice heard?

Who do I talk about this issue, why am I known as the go-to person for gender and sexual orientation equality issues, why have I stood on Parliament hill here in Ottawa and screamed at the top of my lungs until I had no voice left that all Canadians deserve equal rights?

Because as a white straight(ish) women, my voice is taken seriously.People listen to me, if I can get one person to reconsider, one person to change their opinion or their view have ONE person say maybe it’s not the end of the world if two people are in love, then I’ve made the world a better place and that’s all I can ask for.

I hope everyone enjoys hopping around the internet and joining in the one voice, one message that Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is wrong and the only want we are going to change it is through education and love.

Goddess Fish Tour-A Vixen in Venice-Prizes!

May 8, 2015 by Angela

MBB_TourBanner_AVixenInVenice copy

Blurb:

MediaKit_BookCover_AVixenInVeniceHe’s an art thief on the run…with her heart Look closer, into Hotel Totally Five Star Venice, where art curator Monique Le Bres has just walked through the doors of the newly opened swanky luxury hotel to assist with their art collection.

Alessandro Bonnard, the world-renowned art connoisseur and collector has been sent incognito to supervise Monique and oversee her acquisitions for the hotel.

Concealing his true identity, Alessandro is intrigued by the art-loving vixen with an appetite for kinky sex. He pursues Monique, charming her at every turn — taking her to places she’s never been — both in and out of bedroom.

Monique falls hard for the man who has utterly captured her body and soul. Only to find out he isn’t who she thought he was after all…he’s an art thief on the run…with her heart.

Excerpt:

Waiting a good half hour, Monique was quite sure the coast was clear after her supervisor had departed. Weary from her travels she couldn’t wait to get back to her nice room and fall fast asleep in the sumptuous looking bed.

Stepping out of her office, Monique headed for the elevator at the end of the hall, noticing each door she passed had a nametag with identifiers. Sales the Direttore Vendite. Food and Beverage. Diretorre del Marketing. Director of Marketing and so on.

The subdued hush of voices from an adjoining hallway made Monique stop in her tracks.Pausing, she listened. The soft giggles intrigued her. Tiptoeing towards the sound, she peered around the corner. Near the end of the hall, she glimpsed Donovan’s silhouette as he leaned against a woman, kissing her. His hands holding hers above her head as she hooked one long leg around his waist, pulling him closer to her as they embraced passionately.

Monique’s key slipped from her hand and tinkled noisily on the wood floor. Mouth agape, her cheeks flamed as Donovan looked up and nodded to her from down the long hallway. Then the woman looked at her too. Monique immediately recognized the young blonde with the pixie cut hair and the cute little body from the lobby. The one she’d seen Donovan pat on the ass when Monique had first arrived.

The young woman merely smiled at Monique, her legs still wrapped around her supervisor’s hips, and then returned to kissing Donovan. Running her hands along his wide shoulders before he spun her around and planted his hands on her ass, pulling her too him. Hard. Monique looked away, but then back again. Strangely aroused at the unbridled passion, she was aware her nipples peaked under her silk blouse as she watched his hands slide over her curves and slide up and then up and under her skirt.

She tugged the woman’s panties down. She kicked them off with flair. Crumpled, the lace thong lay in the hall while the lovers went at it. Grabbing, tasting, and kissing. Monique was aware her own panties were moist, shocked by her own enjoyment at watching them. Hiking the woman’s skirt up further, Donovan pursued her, baring her sculpted thighs and making Monique’s body quiver as she watched when Donovan slid his fingers between the woman’s legs. A soft groan escaped his lover’s mouth as they kissed and she tugged impatiently at his belt.

Monique gulped an audible gulp. Donovan cocked at eye in her direction. Monique quickly retreated, embarrassed to have been caught standing there enjoying spying on the lovers.

Food.

We’ve actually been enemies for a while. As in…hmm….going on 12 years.

My digestive system wonked out when I had my son. Took me several years to figure out it was WAY different and then several more years to figure out what was really wrong. I have several food allergies. Cheese is the biggy, and cheap sugar. Oof. Yeah. Eating out can be a challenge.

Long story short my body kind of forgot what it was supposed to do with food. The nerves in my stomach register food as pain. It was pretty rough. But after 2 years of testing they tried a magic little pill that costs me literally $4 a month that helps me SOOOOOO much. Craziness!!! So thankful my docs stuck with me and didn’t let me give up on finding an answer to all my digestive nightmares.

Now, what’s ironic about this is I tend to write foodies into my books.

In, Final Surrender, it’s Mark, Angela’s brother and Clay’s best friend. He loves Danish, and NYC coffee, and Chinese food and yeah….the list goes on.

I’d always seen tv shows and movies and read articles about the food in NYC being incredible so I did some research when I wrote this book on places people loved to eat. Chinese Merch and Meli Melo were two places in Manhattan where Angela would be that fit perfectly into the book.

At Christmas in 2013 my parents and I took my son to NYC for the first time. I fell in love. The noise of the city, the hustle and bustle of the subway and train stations and cabs, wonderful. Not overwhelming or awful. The trash on the other hand – OMG!!!

And something we made sure to do was eat lots of iconic foods. A hot dog from a street vendor, chestnuts, French Macarons as an anniversary present for my parents, Champagne and so many things in between. I’ve gone back several times since and absolutely love it…including the food!!!

BookCover_FinalSurrenderBLURB:

Ten years ago, Angela Meyers told everyone she went to New York to find herself. It was a lie. She fled from the aftermath of one hot night with Clay Waters. A night filled with wet heat, all-consuming releases…then his regret.

Now, with a stalker threatening to destroy her career, there’s only one man she trusts to protect her. The man she still loves, hates, needs with every breath she takes.
It’s not that Clay never craved his best friend’s younger sister. With a ticket to boot camp burning a hole in his pocket, he couldn’t allow himself to love her. The moment he lays eyes on her again, the old need—to take down her tightly wound hair, press her long, lean body to his—surges inside him stronger than ever.
But this is no ordinary bodyguard assignment. The best way to identify the voice in Angela’s shadow is to lure it into the light of day. Even if it means convincing her to trust him with her heart…and surrendering his own.

Excerpt:

Clay kept silent and let the new reality of what she was…what they were dealing with sink in. He absentmindedly played with her hair. His fingertips pulled the wet strands slowly to the end. Angela licked her lips nervously, glancing at Clay out of the corner of her eyes.

“Are you trying to distract me?”

“Yes, is it working?” he asked with a playboy smile she didn’t know he still possessed.

“It always works, Clay. Anybody else I can tune out. Everybody else is on the outside, except for you. You’ve always been my Achilles’ heel, but you know that.”

Angela laid her head back against the couch cushions and decided she needed to stop talking. Her insides were already feeling hot and needy, and wanting this man beside her wasn’t going to help her heart or her life stay in one piece. She was brave last night in the near darkness of her bedroom. This morning, not so much.

“I’m nothing special. You could have any man you wanted, and that’s the God’s honest truth.”

He got up and took his cup back to the kitchen and didn’t hear her whisper, “Not every man I want, apparently.”

After he sat back down he asked, “So, want to go out and take a walk, or do you want to stick around here, order in and watch reality TV?”

She lifted her head off the couch with a scoff and said, “You don’t really watch that crap, do you? Every moment you watch is more brain cells you’ll never get back.”

“Please, what do you watch, almighty TV guru?

“The Big Bang Theory, which is the only sitcom that should be allowed on TV. It is fantastically funny. Always makes me laugh no matter what I have going on. Have you ever seen it?”

“Nope, but if it makes you laugh, with that perma scowl you’ve got going on, then it must be pretty good.”

Clay got hit with a pillow out of the blue and he turned to see Angela hiding a wicked grin behind her hand.

“Oh, if you didn’t have a concussion, it would so be on.”

“Well, see, there’s the silver lining of being blown off those steps. I win a pillow fight with you by default. My day is complete. Oh no, not yet. I haven’t had any chocolate.”

“Chocolate, the way to every woman’s heart.”

“Of course it is.”

“So you want to venture out?” he asked again.

“I don’t know,” she answered softly.

“Scared?”

“Little bit. I feel like I’ve got a big target on my back. I don’t want to hunker down and hide from the world, but maybe today we could keep a low profile. I’ve gotta call Mark and my parents.” She stammered again at the thought of being alone with Clay all day and the rest of her breath left her lungs in a rush as Clay’s knuckles brushed her cheek.

“How about we’ll dress you up.” His voice was soft and seductive. “That way you can feel safe and still get out for a little while.”

He stood and looked down into her wide doe eyes and without thinking, she took his hand and let him pull her to her feet.

He mesmerized her with a simple glance. He was two different people, one when they were alone and another when others were around. But she was too, if she really wanted to admit it. They were more alike than she cared to recognize.

The head injury had left her weak and a bit dazed, but Clay standing in front of her threw her completely off balance. He pulled her into his arms and she rested her cheek on his chest as he stroked her hair.

“We’ll fix this.”

“My stalker or us?” she asked before she could clamp her mouth shut.

“Hopefully both before you get completely sick of me and kick me out, like you’ve been threatening.”

“It’s no threat, Clay,” she said, pulling away from him so she could wander back to her bedroom. “It’s a promise,” she added with a snicker.

“Ah yes, but I know the secret to making you happy now,” he said as he moved to follow her.

“What’s that?”

“Chocolate.”

Goddess Fish Tour: The Truth About Lilly by Christy McKee-Prizes!

March 23, 2015 by Angela

Excerpt_TourBanner_TheTruthAboutLilly

BookCover_TheTruthAboutLilly

Disgraced…

Lilly Talbot never imagined she would be starting her life over again. Losing her good name for something she didn’t do has driven her to move into an old lake house she inherited in Vermont. Upon arrival, she is shocked. Half the roof is about to slide into Lake Champlain. Even more upsetting, the man who can fix it will only agree if she trades him room and board for his labor. What will the good people of Haley think of her sharing a house with the handsome bachelor?

A man with a past…

Connor “Mac” McQueen, once one of the infamous Whiz Kids of Wall Street, spent three years in prison for insider trading. Only one thing sustained him during his time inside, the thought of owning Point Cottage, a home he’d fallen in love with years ago. He plans to turn the house into a stunning showcase for his eco-friendly home construction business.

 Secrets and lies…

Now someone’s trying to drive Lilly from her home. Is it someone from her past? Mac has secrets of his own– that could ruin lives if revealed. But if Lilly and Mac are to have a future together they must first delve into the past for answers and accept some difficult truths about each other. Only then, will they know if true love is in their hearts.

Exclusive Excerpt-

Trying to ignore her stomach, she closed her eyes and allowed the music, crowd sounds and the pungent smells of the day to wash over her. For the first time in a very long time, she felt content and optimistic.

“Sleeping on the job?” Mac’s deep timbre shook her out of her daydream.

Lilly’s eyes snapped open to see Mac holding a plastic food container and a tall drink. “Just resting my eyes.”

“Mercy.” She groaned, taking her lunch out of his hands. “Hmm, hmm,” she sniffed. “Thank you. I’ve been smelling this all morning.” Lilly eyed the thirty something red head hanging onto one of Mac’s muscular arms with a death grip.

Pouting, she said, “Mac, aren’t you going to introduce me?”

“Sure.” He disengaged his arm. “Lilly, this is Elise Simms. She owns The Sophisticated Woman salon downtown.”

“Nice to meet you.” Lilly smiled. “Pardon me while I eat my lunch.” Then she settled into consuming the best barbecue sandwich she’d ever tasted. A pair of elderly female twins approached the booth and fluttered around Mac, peppering him with questions about the house he was building for their neighbor. Lilly kept an eye on Elise as she perused the artwork, sipping a humongous bright red drink. While Mac still conversed with the ladies, Elise rudely bumped into a middle aged couple studying a landscape and managed to spill her red juice drink down the front of the horrified woman’s dress.

“Oh dear. I am so sorry.” Aghast at Elise’s rudeness and lack of an apology, Lilly jumped up to offer assistance and paper towels, but the angry woman merely grabbed them out of her hand and stalked off in a huff.

The tacky redhead didn’t stop there but grabbed onto Lilly’s arm, digging in her blood red talons to pull her farther away from Mac. “Mac and I have been very close for a long time,” she hissed. “I think you should know he’s had his eye on Point Cottage for years. He’s a man who usually gets what he wants,” she warned. “You probably won’t last the winter anyway.” She looked at Lilly as if she was an anemic, scrawny featherweight. “Wouldn’t want you to misinterpret Mac’s interest for anything but what it is.” She tapped the arm of her fake red rhinestone Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses against her billboard size ruby lips. “Trust me, his interest is in that cottage—not you.”

Lilly pried off the woman’s death grip. What was this venomous bitch’s problem? She slapped Elise with a deadly you should have never messed with me sister smile. “Really, Eloise? If you and Mac are such close friends, why is he sleeping under my roof instead of yours?” Take that you smart mouthed Yankee bitch.

Lilly looked over at Mac who was leaning against one of the giant oaks, arms crossed over his broad chest. From the angry look on his face she knew he’d seen his good friend’s inexcusable behavior. Pointedly ignoring Elise, he took a seat in one of Lilly’s lawn chairs.

“Come on, your barbecue is getting cold.” He patted the chair beside him.

“Mac,” Elise whined. “I thought you were going to take me around the grounds, enjoy the day together.”

“Don’t know where you got that idea.” He didn’t bother to look at her. “Told you I was delivering lunch to Lilly. You invited yourself along.” He watched as, red faced, Elise fixed him with a nasty glare then did an about face and stalked off into the crowd.

“You didn’t tell me you had a girlfriend,” Lilly smirked, taking the chair next to him as she watched Elise’s retreat.

“I don’t.” He snorted.

Disgusted, Lilly shook her head at him. “You better tell that to the klutzy redhead who tried to drown one of my customers because she thinks you belong to her. Please tell her I’m no threat. Maybe she’ll dial down the jealousy and possessiveness.” Then, she couldn’t resist adding, “Last thing I want to do is get between a man and his woman.”

Mac helped himself to one of Lilly’s fries and gave her a wicked grin. “Peaches, you are the only woman in my life.”

She took a sip of her tea. “I am your roommate, your married roommate of barely a week. If I’m the only woman in your life then your love life sucks big time.”

Excerpt-

Wounded Hearts

Brandon lay in bed reliving the gentle touch of Sarah’s lips against his. The kiss was such a surprise, and over before he realized her intentions. Could someone like her really care for him? His heart pounded in his rib cage, and hurt and longing clogged his throat. Tears pricked his eyes, and he closed them.

He slept in the nude, so it wasn’t hard for him to take inventory of the scars on his body with his hands. He didn’t need to see them. He knew them by heart, but allowed his palm to roam over them for the millionth time. His torso was puckered and lumpy from the burns. They traveled down his torso to just below his navel. Fortunately the flames hadn’t reached his genitals, and he was able to function sexually. Not that he’d had an opportunity for a test run, but seeing Sarah, being close to her, breathing in her special scent had made his trousers uncomfortable on more than one occasion.

The burns covered his shoulders, arms, and parts of his back. And then there was his face. It had not been spared. His helmet had protected most of his head and somehow his eyes hadn’t been damaged. Considering how bad the damage could have been, he was a lucky son-of-a-gun. But he wasn’t what Sarah needed. She deserved a man without scars, physical or emotional. She was projecting her feelings for Logan onto him. That wouldn’t do, for either of them. What if they married and she decided later she couldn’t live with his scars? He shuddered. No, he’d never take that chance.

Review: Love Means… Endurance by Andrew Grey (Farm series)

February 12, 2015 by Angela

LoveMeansEnduranceFS Blurb:

Together for over ten years, Geoff and Eli built a fulfilling life. Their love and support helped raise their adopted son. Their hard work and dedication grew their farm from raising cattle and boarding horses to expanding into therapy riding sessions. Surrounded by a loving circle of friends, Geoff and Eli couldn’t ask for more. Until driven Eli loses his energy, and the doctor gives them the dire diagnosis of cancer.

Caught up in never-ending doctor’s appointments, surgeries, and treatments, their world turns upside down. With so many people dependant on them, they must pull together to put on a brave face, continue living as best they can, and care for their family. Geoff fears Eli, the love of his life, while a fighter, may not endure this battle, but neither is willing to consider succumbing as an option.

Review:

I still remember the first time I met Geoff and Eli, I fell in love with the kind and gentle men. They both had such purpose in life, and such sadness, despite that they made a home and a family out of the people they meet. This is the 10th full length novel in the series.

Let me start off with saying that Andrew Grey with a method writer, it’s not a bad thing, but it makes his books familiar and predictable Boy meets boy, boy falls in love with boy, boy almost loses boy, Boys get back together and live happily ever after.

Or do they?

Geoff and Eli have been together for 10 years when Eli gets sick. This is a roller coaster of a book following Eli’s treatments, his triumphs and his near death experiences. As a reader I love this book as a person with a medical degree I have to set a lot aside for this book to be believable. I found myself screaming at the pages offering different suggestions different treatments getting angry at the pages of incorrect or not well written medical information (This is why I can’t write medical drama I find myself over writing it). That being said the story is wonderful. It’s about two people against a cruel world and the love they’ve created to get them through.

Andrew Grey gives us another heart wrenching, tear jerking reminder to hug your loved ones and never let go.
